Angling 4 Oceans
Angling 4 Oceans, a campaign of the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, is working to motivate and activate recreational saltwater anglers to improve marine conservation so that America's more than 9 million recreational anglers can continue to enjoy saltwater fishing. Angling 4 Oceans is a partnership of recreational fishing organizations, the fishing industry and state agencies. With your help, we're navigating a future for saltwater fishing.

Tackling Magnuson

On January 12, 2007, President George W. Bush signed into law the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Reauthorization Act of 2006. The reauthorization, finalized in the waning days of the 109th Congress, was the first time that comprehensive revisions to marine fisheries management were made in more than a decade. Most importantly, the bill will make positive changes for recreational saltwater anglers and included all of the SALT Principles recommended by the Angling 4 Oceans coalition.

Report: Navigating a Future for Saltwater Fishing

Angling Research, commissioned by the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership's (TRCP) Angling 4 Oceans campaign, shows that the economic impact of recreational saltwater fishing is 71 percent greater than the commercial finfish industry. In addition, a survey of state marine fisheries departments and sportfishing organizations shows that every responding state and 81 percent of the responding sportfishing groups agreed that saltwater fishing licenses, and the revenues generated from the license, have benefited fish conservation. The research supports the Angling 4 Oceans campaign's SALT principles to improve marine fisheries management and recreational saltwater fishing in the reauthorization of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act. Healthy Oceans

With success at Tackling Magnuson, Angling 4 Oceans will focus attention on creating healthy oceans and coastal fish habitat to improve and sustain our recreational saltwater fishing opportunities. The U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy and the Pew Oceans Commission (now working together as the Joint Ocean Commission) have put forth comprehensive sets of policy recommendations designed to restore the ecological health of the oceans. By implementing the policy recommendations of the Joint Ocean Commission and coordinating partnerships through the National Fish Habitat Initiative, recreational anglers will benefit from healthy coastal ecosystems.
